2013: Travel is My Word of the Year

Travel….a simple word which takes people away from their daily lives to places that they dream of. It’s not always perfect. For example, you may get the only ticket left on the plane and it is right next to the lavatory and while you’re being constantly bumped into by this person and that…you get to enjoy the experience of sitting across from a first time flier. Mr. First Timer just may happen to bend over in the aisle (while aiming towards your face) whilst fumbling with his seat belt, over-sized carry on bag, coat, snacks etc. Once Mr. First Timer finally gets into his seat, he proceeds to take off his shoes (oh yes he did!).

Yes, travelling to other places can be amazing but getting there can be stressful, to say the least. I beg you to  not be a Mr. First Timer!

Travel to the beach in 2013

It’s easy to be prepared and find out ahead of time what to expect and how to act; ever heard of Google? Google and individual airline websites can make your experience much more enjoyable for you and those around you. Follow the current TSA rules and it will make your trip to the beach a lot more fun.

Flying to your favorite beach destination

Those of you that connect with us on Facebook know that I have been travelling for the past few months including Las Vegas, Colorado Springs, Los Angeles, Gulf Shores in Alabama and Austin. I've found a new freedom and love in my middle age – travel!

Travel in 2013

Flying is one of the safest ways to get around and it sure beats sitting in a car for hour upon hour. The internet makes it very easy to research various prices, destinations and routes. We found it cheaper to make a big loop (Portland, OR to California to Florida to Texas and back to Portland) than doing separate trips. If you are travelling this time of year, I recommend staying away from airport layovers in cities which are known for snow and ice (Chicago, New York, Washington DC).

January will be filled with articles about my recent trips as well as my upcoming escapades (Tybee Island here I come!).

Please make sure you are subscribed to our e-newsletter (located at the top of our right column) so that you don’t miss out on any of our journeys and/or decorating articles from our other site, Nautical Cottage Blog.

Happy January and safe travels to you and yours in 2013!  Where are you headed this year?

  2. Travel is very important to me. It connects me to myself and calms me to get away.. I agree about the first timers. Do I have stories! The idiots on planes now bringing smelly food (tuna really people!) are really self involved and ruin it for the rest of us. I take my MP3 and block out all the cattle noise and meditate. Now I travel only top business class so I am on with first class and one of the first off the plane, its the only way to fly. You also get better treatment at the airport and can go through the first class security line with a business class ticket. No waiting!

  4. Sunglasses have various types of lenses. Glass lenses have better visual quality and are more scratch-resistant than plastic ones. Photo chromic lenses darken in reaction to light.
